Easter Eggs

Coloring Easter eggs the tradional way:

Collect small leaves, grasses and blossoms. (Do not, however, pick the spring flowers of your neigbour's garden like daughter did.) Place them onto the egg and tie a piece of panty hose around it. Bring water to a boil and add the skin of red onions to it. Put the eggs carefully into the water and add a spoonful of vinegar.
Take out the eggs after ca. 10 minutes.
You will have the most beautiful Easter eggs. (Which, if you are like daughter, you have to share with your neigbour...after all her garden is now kind of bare.)

Done!

After 18 workdays and a lot of dust our bathroom is done!
When I offered son to take the first shower he politely told me that I should be the first one to use the shower. "No", I said "you go ahead and tell me how you like it!"
Again, he declined. "What's wrong?" I asked him. "Why don't you want to take a shower?" "Well", he answered, "just in case the workers made a mistake and the whole thing comes tumbling down, I don't want to be in it."

I took the first shower and it worked perfectly.

Happy Birthday!!!

She hates getting up early...and she won't do it for anybody except her brother...

...whose birthday is today and we had to start very early

...in order to get the most out of it.

Work Day #8

Museum of Modern Literature in Marbach, Germany

Pretty much a year ago, while laying in bed in London, husband was watching a typical British tv program about the best modern architecture (the Brits seem to have an enormous interest in architecture, house trading, house remodeling, house buying and remodeling and reselling for a profit, so chances are, when watching tv, that is what's on.) According to that show the "Literatur Museum" in Marbach, Germany was one of the top ten contenders and when husband saw the building he said accusingly what he always says in a situation like that: "Why have I not been there yet???"
And me, being the trip planer of the family, immediately felt guilty. :)

So, still being without a bathroom, last weekend was the perfect time to visit David Chipperfield' s building.

Workday #7

Getting there!!!
I will be so glad when we can move back in our apartment. Right now it is occupied by painters, tilers and electricians. But...ah...they are getting there!
I do have a newfound respect for my friend who is not only renovating a lousy little room but building a gigantic house. I couldn't do it. I would lose it.

Bathroom

Today is the last day of our ugly (see pictures above) bathroom. Tomorrow it will be gutted. The worst thing about it is the black laminate floor with glitter. Who would pick something like that? The glitter doesn't come out in the pictures...it really is very bad.

It took us one year to decide on the tiles, the shower, the faucets and the sink. Actually, the sink was the only thing we knew we really wanted, the rest just had to look good with the sink.

In my ignorance I thought you can completely renovate a bathroom within 3 to 4 days. The faces of the handymen when I told them were priceless. Of course, I am sure my face didn't look much better when they told me it will take around 2 weeks. Sigh.
