And Another Hike...

After the long, snowy winter we are so excited about the beautiful weather that today the kids and I packed our backpacks for the third day in a row. Daughter's godmother had offered to take us on a hike that would show us a great view of the Swabian Alps and if lucky, some deer and boars...

"biology class"

"geology class"

and freshly baked cherry pie.

I think I will take a break from hiking for a few days now. I am quite sure tomorrow I will have a heck of a time moving at all!

Black Forest, Day II or Roman Ruins

In the middle of a forest, almost impossible to find, there are these Roman ruins. Seriously, it's almost like you are not supposed to find them...no signs to speak of. Without the help of a family living nearby, we would have not seen "Villa Rustica". But once we found it, it was hard to leave...it's a magical place and it feels weird walking on walls made by Romans in the 2nd century.
The fourth picture shows the building where the Roman inhabitants took baths. They went from a nook with a tub of cold water through a hallway (which had floor heating nontheless!) to one of two nooks with tubs of warm water.

Black Forest

We hiked in the Black Forest today. We saw 4 snakes but could only take a picture of the smallest one...the bigger ones disappeared quickly into the grass. We had a picnic in the ruins of a small fort and, at the end, a huge piece of Black Forest cake in a coffee house.

KISS in Zuerich

Husband's childhood dream was to talk to Gene Simmons and by talking I mean really talk, not just a quick "hello" or "I liked the show".
It took him a few years to actually fulfill this dream but few days ago he went to the Kiss concert in Zuerich, picked up his backstage pass and - had an actual conversation with Gene Simmons.
According to husband, this concert was the VERY, VERY best he ever attended and he has been walking on cloud nine ever since. The bass guitar in the first two pictures? Yep, that belongs to him now...because it is an "actual piece of art" and it is axe shaped and it is something we really needed!

Hmmmm.

Scorpions

Part of our family is into feeding seals, the other part is into heavier things...like the Scorpions!
Husband, son and his buddy with Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker.

And a very, very friendly Matthias Jabs:

Better get them into the right kind of music from a very early age on...

Party At The Zoo!

This year, daughter celebrated her birthday party at the zoo. She invited 11 friends and her godmother (who is the only person patient enough to deal with 12 little, excited girls) to get to know some snakes and Australian lizards closer. A lot closer. She also got to feed the fish and seals. The seals even "sang" "Happy Birthday" to her!
